StretchCannon vs vedman :: 2/2 |

Drug Enforcement Administration versus ADP ("Armed" Drug Paraphernalia)
PLEASE CHECK OUT THE HUGE VERSION
LONG BORING "ABOUT THIS ENTRY" FOLLOWS
The sky is the new default Longhorn sky. The shadows in the clouds were perfect.
The potfield is a legal medical one, I can't remember where. The mounds of dirt are topsoil. They have to truck it in and spread it out because the ground is mostly red clay.
The chopper is the one from attrition.org, modified slightly :)
The tank needed serious work, but the shadows on it were perfect.
The brass pipe is a "protopipe". The oldschool amongst you will recognise it.
I can't believe nobody has called me yet on trying to take down a chopper with a mortar round.
Almost all the other shadows are mine, done with a carefully done mask and dodge burn.
I originally had a 2 foot tall bill clinton holding his breath, with his face turning blue because he "didn't inhale". I had a nancy reagan head poppin in from the bottom left corner with a word bubble that simply said "No!". But I thought the word bubble was cheap, so I axed it. Then I axed her, clinton, and the "this is your brain on drugs" girl, who was using her frying pan like a baseball bat to smack a lobbed grenade back towards our mortar operating bong. I took her out too because then the picture didn't have balance. That and it wasn't clear what she was doing. I'm happy with it. Less is more. With everything in there, it came out to 32 layers total. After my layer deletion binge, I had 12. It made for a cleaner entry with a clearer focus. The arm going from the protopipe to the AK47 is all mine. I couldn't make the light play right with the prior texture, so I just remade the thing.
I spent the most time on the shadows and lighting. Getting the brass to play ball with the direction of the sunlight took forever. I did, and redid the shadow off the bong and mortar about 35 times. Then I had to do it all over again when I factored in that the blast from the mortar shot would make light. Making the smoke was a pain in the ass. I kept wanting to make the shadow behind the ZigZag/RPG guy too long, and finally just measured to figure out where it should be.
If I had another week, I would have made all the weapons fire, added a guy in the chopper doorway shooting back, and set the cannon on the tank off with a blast of dirt in front of the protopipe. Then spent another week obsessing over light and shadows. :)
That was the bulk of the last week. Obsessing over light and shadows. : )
