Random Digital Photos
Thought we need a photo thread as well.

So this is the very first photo I took with my new Canon EOS Rebel XSi, which I got today. So far I absolutely love the camera.

Gonna post some stuff from your new camera, DG? :)

Yes...Santa was very good to some of us this year!

Great photos, it's amazing how you can photograph the mundane and make it intriguing. I wish I had that kind of eye for photos.

Twiggy 2010-01-01 18:59

Thanks, Spider.

I know I'm probably taking up half the available space on the internet for my photos recently, but I'm quite excited to be using my new camera. So here's another:

Hope you don't mind.

Not any stunning subject matter, but I thought the colours looked really nice.

Got a new lens (Nikon 50mm f2.8) and a flash for xmas. I've been experimenting with them a bit, and here are a few that came out pretty good. You can see more on my flickr if you're interested. But they're mostly people so they tend to make for less glamorous shots.
What machinehead was drinking this NYE.
Obviously an intense game.

ash# 2010-01-06 8:52

Man that guy is serious, he looks like he is holding a pistol under the table Han Solo style and is about to shoot first.

B L 2010-01-06 11:57

tx... PICTUREKA! I got that for the kids. It's a hoot. Also, is that a breast or a butt on the right edge?

Alligator... WTF? You don't call, you don't write. You just show up in SD, snap a pic and bolt?

Twiggy 2010-01-12 23:53

The Paris subway is pretty cool, Alligator.
Cool factory in the north side of my town. It's actually pretty large although the panorama photo doesn't make it appear so.

I think this photo of Hamilton's icy harbour is much better viewed on black, so here's a link to it.

Perhaps I am being immature, or am not enough of a marketing expert, but I can't help but think that this isn't really a good brand name for a cookie:

My first thought was, "They say that Otis makes the fillings himself."

RepoMan 2010-07-07 16:12

Some fireworks shots from the 4th:

The rest:

ash# 2010-07-10 12:07

I snagged some of those fireworks too...

Twiggy 2010-07-14 23:50

Repo: that one with the squiggly fireworks is just awesome!
Ash#: I like the one with the smooth streaks of light, nice effect. And your second last one looks like a dandelion.
Cool stuff guys.

Just a few here from my trip to Italy. I have more posted on flickr and I have more to come for sure. I've just recently started sorting through some of my 3600 photos from the trip.

In La stazione ferroviaria di Santa Maria Novella. The train station in Florence where we stayed for most of the trip. We were there at 6:30 am to catch a fast train to Rome.

Spiraly stairs in the Vatican in Rome.

Staircase in Venice which I particularly liked with the morning-afternoon sun hitting it. It is very beachy to me which makes sense because it is also a 20 second walk from the beach.

The last one is straight out of camera except for cropping. The photo was taken from a bridge that crosses L'Arno, the river running through Florence.

I got plenty of other shots that seem to show more of what Italy is like but I think that everybody who goes there gets those shots and so I tried to pick out ones that were a little different.

And tomorrow I go to the east coast of Canada so I will be back in 10 days with more photos. :) Unless I fall off one of the many cliffs. Then don't expect photos so much.

ash# 2010-07-15 8:32

The first two are awesome.

Domestic Goddess 2010-07-15 14:02

Yup. I love the spiral staircase one.

NocturnalGuy 2010-08-24 16:32

Couple of long-exposure shots of my boys duelling with their custom-made lightsabers:

FulanoDeTal 2010-08-24 16:43

I love these kinds of shots. The second one looks like they're trying to spell something...

Twiggy 2010-08-24 19:01

Pretty nifty. You can try and figure out what happened by looking at the streaks.

Twiggy 2010-09-24 21:41
Took this photo in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia during my trip to east coast Canada. Lovely place.
I went to a field full of sunflowers and they all looked very wilted and sad. So I picked the seeds out to make a sad face and used a flash with a relatively long shutter speed.

Another from my trip to Italy. Taken early morning on my way to the train station.

Taken in venice. I liked the gold colours complimented by the very convenient placement of coincidental blues.

h2ogate 2010-09-25 7:20

Here's one I took a couple of weeks ago.

I was driving on a seldom used highway through the California hills in the late afternoon when the light was hitting the hills in such a way that I just had to stop and take a picture. Scenes like this are one of the things I really love about this state.

B L 2010-09-26 1:35

I feel bad saying something about Twiggy's and ignoring h2Ogate's, so let me say this about h2Ogate's... very purty and I hope you didn't toss an incendiary device into the grass like so many Californians would.

Twiggy. That sunflower pic is too cool. So very clever plus the color and light makes it look like dolls. Now go get famous for something other than the human skin sombreros you keep in your crawl space.*

* line stolen from some movie I saw part of recently

Twiggy 2010-11-05 20:17

Hah thanks BL.

The latest photos...
Hamilton Farmer's Market (Not very farmerish is it?)
Fancy Pants
Smoke and Mirrors
Elvis is looking a little tattered (there was a whole wall with like 40 of these painted like that and brass and gold, etc)

Figured since I haven't shopped in a while, I should find something to here's a few pics. Viewing the larger sizes is recommended :)
A shot from my old balcony.

The full lunar eclipse. Took this photo at 300mm exactly 48 minutes ago. Awesome orangish hue.

ash# 2010-12-21 8:57

Awesome... What was your shutter speed, aperture and iso settings... do you remember? I assume you were using a tripod.
