The national pastime

Why is the Tribe never going to be a contender? Maybe it has something to do with every time they have someone on their staff win a
Cy Young, the see fit to trade him away.

  :(

Koko, take good care of Cliff Lee

ash# 2009-07-30 12:28

Come on Peg, you have Carlos Carrasco now!

kokopelli 2009-07-30 13:07

I'm anxious to see Cliff in action. If I were an Indians fan, I would certainly be disappointed, but you do have a few players there with a lot of talent. Some of it might play out nicely in the long run. After decades of suffering in these parts, I'd be beyond ecstatic if the Phillies can win it all again this year and/or next.

ash# 2009-07-30 13:21

Me too. Obviously no guarantees on winning the Series again, that run last year was pretty amazing. At least they are in the mix though and always trying to make the team better. Which you could not always say about the Phillies.

kokopelli 2009-07-30 20:17

Yeah, the planets lined up perfectly last year, for sure. I'm certainly not counting on a repeat, but it is fun to dream. I'll always cherish that I was actually at Game 5 (Parts I and II) to see it happen last year. That was the chance of a lifetime.

PegLeg 2009-07-31 16:32

And the news just keeps getting worse...:( :( :(

davet 2009-07-31 22:54

Hey, it could be worse, you all: you could be a Blue Jays fan. The team I support is in a division with two 800-pound gorillas, and appears to be busily shedding salary. Long heavy sigh. :(

Victor is a solid catcher (he has only started playing first with any regularity this year). And with both he and Veritek being strong switch hitters, it gives Francona a metric assload of leeway in who he rests and who he play behind the plate/1st base/dh on any given day.

I don't like that Martinez is gone from Cleveland, but I think it was an extremely smart move by Boston to pick him up.

It would seem Cliff has settled in quite nicely.

kokopelli 2009-10-24 20:08

He's been quite the acquisition. I'm hoping he's got some more playoff magic in him...

ash# 2009-10-26 8:44

Yea, I hope he can throw three shutouts against Sabathia.

PegLeg 2009-10-29 5:08

Didn't get the shutout last night, but damn! That was one hell of a complete game by Lee.

ash# 2009-10-29 10:05

Would have been a shutout if not for the throwing error. Must have been a little painful for you to watch Peg...

Postseason ERA: 0.54

That is just retarded. Not like he's facing bad batters either.

B L 2009-10-29 11:02

No shit. Two Indian pitchers going at it and surrendering 2 earned runs in 16 World Series innings. Peg, dude... bummer.

PegLeg 2009-11-01 6:55

Sabathia getting traded away last year didn't hurt so much as losing both Lee and Martinez this year. Right now I wouldn't be surprised to see them trade Sizemore in the off season for a couple of prospects and a used car salesman...gotta build for the future you know.
:Sigh:

PegLeg 2009-11-03 6:04

After big win, Lee ready to pitch in Game 7
Phillies ace might be able to go an inning or two if needed

Booyah!!

kokopelli 2009-11-03 21:00

I'd love to see it happen. But first, we've got to get there...

ash# 2009-11-04 10:50

If the series goes to 7, he will absolutely pitch. I would think maybe even up to 3 innings depending on pitch counts.

So start Hamels or Happ, take your pick, and pull them after 3 when they get in trouble. Pitch Lee for the next 3 then go to the bullpen and get out your rosary beads.

What we have going for us tonight is that Petite is on 3 days rest and he is old. Hopefully we can hit him hard early and get to their bullpen and we can outscore them in a track meet.

Chuck 2009-11-05 4:55

Fuck the Yankees.

akaMonty 2009-11-05 15:53

Ditto that sentiment.

ash# 2009-11-05 16:55

Certainly no argument here.

kokopelli 2009-11-05 16:56

Fuck them twice.

ash# 2009-11-05 16:58

In both ears.

davet 2009-11-08 20:34

Wholehearted agreement with the sentiments expressed in this thread.

PegLeg 2010-02-19 5:39

Catchers and pitchers started reporting on Wednesday...WOOT!

B L 2010-02-19 12:52

Hell yeah!

Dinahmoehum 2010-02-20 22:09

Yep! We aren't going down to a game this year, but to an exhibition game with the Jax Suns. Marlins took over the franchise when the dodgers pulled out of FL.

Dinahmoehum 2010-03-13 18:30

I know it's early, but I gots to go with the nationals to win the east!

Feh?!? OK I gots the Orioles to win the AL East. In my dreams.

kokopelli 2010-03-13 19:31

The Nats should be better this year. They have made a few decent upgrades. The O's also have some good, young talent, and may actually be respectable. Both teams have the drawback of playing in strong divisions.
