Jack Layton, the leader of the NDP (Canada's official opposition party) died this morning of cancer at 61.

Jack was my MP, and he literally showed up at my front door last year - he was going door to door in my building in support of a candidate for city council in my ward (Mary Fragedakis, who won).

He genuinely liked meeting people and listening to them. He will be greatly missed. Such sad news. I hope somebody will be able to step forward and successfully assume Jack's role as Harper's primary opponent - my country desperately needs this.
