First Impressions:

Multiplayer -- Looks like they tweaked it from the beta pretty significantly in some ways. Slower fire rate on the DMR, lower grenade damage. Seems tougher to land a melee strike too. I think this will take me a while to get used to, but I think it is going to be awesome. I wonder if it will always be so damn hard when you are on offense in Invasion, or if people will come up with good strategies.

Firefight -- I think this is going to be awesome. The two matches we played last night were really fun. So many options here too. The perfect cure for "we just got pwned 25-6 in team slayer by some basement dwelling elmo"

Campaign -- played through mission 2. Seems like 27 kinds of awesome so far. I thought the interactions with the other members of the squad worked great. Grunts are not necessarily gimme kills anymore, those jackal guys are quick as shit, and the Elites are tough to bring down. Level design is really cool although I have really only seen one level.

Theater seems as good as it ever was. Pretty easy to grab a screenshot or clip. Question to Jango and AsMuch... I clicked "recommend video to friends" and it said that it recommended it, but it didn't ask me who to recommend it to. So did you guys get an XBL message or did it just show up in your "recommended" folder when you go into theater?

I also like that it seems that your rank is compiled across modes... so campaign experience goes to leveling up your MP rank. This game is going to eat up a TON of my gaming time in the future.

Replace "baby crying" with "dog barking" and it's like playing with AsMuch last night

I was playing around in the firefight settings last night and created one hell of a fun time. You can set up the spartans with invincibility, low gravity, high jumping and speed. Add in rocket launchers that you never have to reload, and it's a high-jumping crazy fest.

Heck, I haven't even opened up forge yet.

I am thinking Firefight is going to be awesome. Question though... in my stats on Bungie.com.... those firefight matches we played the other night showed up as custom games. Why is that? I also read that fucking with the settings like that is the way to get the high point firefight achievements.

Tried it. Failed miserably. Even Heroic is a bit of a problem.

However, I've been more interested in the daily challenges. That's what I check before I start playing and it gives me an idea of what to play that day. It's like a never-ending achievement list, and if you miss one - too bad, it's gone forever!

Ouch. If you were having that much trouble, I am thinking no way for me. Is it easier, harder or the same as MW2 on veteran?

And yea the challenges are a great idea. I wonder if they will do anything like double experience weekend.... like Extra Credit Weekend or something. Although I guess that is what the challenges are.... a way to get extra credits by doing certain things. OK forget it, I answered my own question.

MW2 can't compare to Halo Reach as to the difficulty.

In MW2, you could stake out a defensive position and slowly work your way to killing all of the guys on the map.

In Reach, the hardest enemies have regenerating shields and they roll in and out of cover a lot. You end up using a fuck-ton of ammo just knocking down a shield and then they roll away and recharge. You must come out of cover to fight them (and die pretty quickly) or use up all of the ammo (and die a bit later).

That said, I have no doubt a 4-man team can beat the game on Legendary, but solo seems like it would be pretty difficult.

That sounds tough. Probably too tough for me. I would like to do it in coop though, although I understand that the enemies scale as you add more people in coop. I think it should still be manageable.

I like that they sprinkle campaign challenges in with the MP stuff in the daily challenges. I was having some fun with those last night. Went back to the sniper level for the precision weapon challenge.

After finishing the campaign last night I was screwing around playing some firefight matchmaking games with random people I don't know. It was fun as hell, even though the other players weren't people I know. Pretty good way to rack up credits too. I blew through a whole rank in like 3 matches. Although I had a couple of challenge completions in there too.

And Rocketfight is fun... but Sniperfight friggen RULES.

The game is only like a week old and you already finished it? When I get a new game (new to me, a couple of years old to most people) it takes months before I get to the end. On Easy.

Breakpoint looks like the campaign level where you're keeping the turrets going outside the lab that was repurposed for Firefight. I long ago resigned myself to paying for what used to be free (add-on maps for PC games) so I'll definitely be buying this, I'd just feel better about it if it didn't seem obvious that these maps could have shipped with the game. I'm sure they were either done or could have been done.

That said, if there's a game company that provides superb fan service, it's Bungie, so I'll gladly support them. I'll be having fun on these maps for far longer than that stupid MW2 map pack.
