My sister and her friends there have been posting interesting stuff on Facebook, so I thought I'd re-post some here to share.

Right after the big quake

I think that first picture is going to transport the Nimitz back to World War 2.

The real America not that part where you live.

I can look at somewhat abstract things like this and be okay but when I watch the news and see the faces and hear personal stories I choke up.

Nice!

Thanks for posting, Repo. I'm with Chuck, it's easy to handle when there are no people in the shots, but when you see their faces and think about what they've lost, that's when it gets real.

Nice pictures, but for the sake of clarity, I'm going to be the science nazi in here.

The red dots in the fission picture are the neutrons. The aloof smileys are Uranium, and the Angry ones are likely smaller atoms. Control rods are angry doors.

I'm glad everything with your sister is ok.

I thought the red dots were dodgeballs. My image of the inside of a cooling tower is much more boring now

Here is a pretty amazing thing where you can slide the satellite after photos over top of the befores. Or the befores over the afters, if you prefer.

Your model is interesting. I can't wait to see your next presentation at the Atomic Scientists Conference in Geneva next year.

Yeah, it took me a while to be able to play that video. My sister said that right after the tsunami the news kept showing video of a trapped horse and that was hard to watch. Apparently the horse survived, so they said.

My sister went to her office yesterday to pick up some stuff. Looks like a perfect Tokyo day from up there. Mt. Fuji in the background, too.

My sister flew to South Korea yesterday for a couple days. Her comment about this was "this mass exodus is UNREAL!!!"

Tokyo airport reality:

Click the image to open in full size.

She also posted a video of her walking through a radiation check at the airport... registering nothing.

Although now that she's in South Korea, she's making sure to keep an eye out for radiation monsters.

I will assume she registered nothing because the radiation was absorbed and made into super powers. Has she tried feats of strength, super hearing or vision or even tried to fly?

My sister went to Kyoto for the weekend for the cherry blossom festivals. I can see why she went, things seem beautiful and normal there.

What if something goes wrong with that sign? For example, does "Baro Nippon" mean "Give up, Japan"?

This is a real email that was sent from our dear friend and the real-life basis for the Joe is Japanese character, Koga Sato. His email was such a relief to read, as we had not heard from anyone yet after the earthquake. It was inspiring and goofy. So much so, that we felt compelled to illustrate it and pass it on to the world (with Koga’s permission). This email made everyone at the animation studio feel a sense of duty to donate time to make this mini comic.

Pretty cool.
