I've been hearing about this game for a while but I didn't really think to try it out until I saw it mentioned on Penny Arcade and watched a few Youtube videos.

The guy who developed it is having some server issues, so you can try the game for free this weekend. You can find it here. It's $10 if you want to buy it (that's broken right now too).

There's a pretty large crafting system (which should get larger as the game gets out of alpha). It's outlined in the wiki.

I recommend watching this how-to video to see if it will interest you.

This game. This game owns. It's like Legos meets Half-Life.

Btw, the headbob can be turned off!

my interest is piqued... anyone else playing this? I'm downloading now, and maybe I'll be able to start playing at home later.

I played for a couple hours last night. I went ahead and paid for the game just so I could get the full experience. They're still having problems because I didn't have any audio until I found a forum that gave a work around. They've mentioned lots of upcoming updates, so I'm sure that problem will be gone soon. I had fun trying to figure out what to do, but if I hadn't watched some guy's videos on youtube or read some of the wiki, I wouldn't have had a clue. There's not much introduction in-game. I can see how it can be pretty much whatever you want it to be. You can be a builder or a hunter or just an explorer. There is also a multiplayer aspect but I think you have to find a server or set one up yourself might be neat to get some of us in there together. The look of it might be a turn off for some, but it just feels "retro" to me. Who knows how much time I'll spend with it, but for the next few days or so I'll get in there and play around.

I've joined a few Reddit servers to try it out. Some of the things people have been building are amazing. An elevated highway six blocks wide lined with glass and torches that stretched for MILES. Giant underwater areas lined with glass. Huge waterfalls (and lavafalls).

I thought my single player game was fun, but seeing the huge areas people have been working on is great. I'd like to see a Mechapixel server at some point so a bunch of us can get together a build some colossal structures. Maybe a giant 8-Bit carved into the side of an mountain, Mount Rushmore style.

that's exactly what I was thinking

I haven't played any of the multiplayer yet. I don't know where to find any public servers. On the desktop version, they just ask you to type in an IP address, and I haven't really looked for those yet. Who knows if my computer can handle being a server, but I'll download the server software and install it, maybe I can host for awhile.

I've been playing around with minecarts. .

There is a lot of potential with automatic track setups, and I love it. I'll probably start playing with redstone switches later.

the only thing I can think of to use minecarts for is to transport myself to different mines. The resources you put in them don't get stored anywhere at the end of the line automatically do they? You'd still have to travel to the end of the line to put them in a storage chest right?

I was looking on the minecraft wiki site and looked at the designs for redstone "gates" and my mind was blown... I can't fathom what to do with those either other than putting a switch on the ground that opens my door for me when I walk into my home then closes it behind me.

You should check out some of the videos on youtube about mine cart stations. By using redstone wiring and pressure plates, you can change the direction of the tracks and make a fully functional subway station.

I've been using invEdit for my single player games, you can edit your inventory to include tons of stuff which makes it a fun building game instead of a hunt for resources.

Some guy figured out how to import google sketch up into minecraft and made a 1:1 scale model Enterprise-D.

I still like playing the game as a resource hunt. I've just started so I'm still playing the game as designed. I keep dying and losing my stuff so I've had to start from square one all over again multiple times.

The SMP server I was playing on went under, so a few people from that server have started a new one. Come by and visit at zero.minr.org. You have to be approved to build so let me know what your handle is and I'll PM the admin.

My handle is Jmillius and you can find my house due east of the initial spawn.

Visit our reddit at r.minr.org.

I think I need to check this game out.

I'm sure you guys have seen it already, but some guy made a working computer in Minecraft:

I've kind of let this game go. My old computer can barely handle a "simple" game like this and I'd get frustrated with the lag.
That hotel is great, Jango. Is it on a multiplayer server?
I'd never seen that video before, Repo. That's fantastic. It's way in the realm of dorkitude, but still impressive that he spent the time to do all that.

I have a server up and running at 216.178.83.195 if anyone wants to mess around with it.

Update: try 216.178.83.194. I put it on a different machine.

Update 2: I shut it down. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence, but bad things happened to the network while this was running.
