Somewhere on this ball we call "Earth"

"Her face hidden behind a black mask, a former model spoke yesterday of the horrific burns she suffered in a bushfire while running a marathon.

Turia Pitt, 24, told a parliamentary inquiry that event organisers had given little warning of the risk of being engulfed in an Outback blaze.

Yet only a few miles into the race a wildfire trapped her in a rocky gorge, leaving her with ‘nowhere to go’.

‘It just got hotter and hotter and hotter and I couldn’t stand it any more so I jumped up and tried to run and that’s when I got burned,’ she said.

Miss Pitt suffered 64 per cent burns and was taken to a specialist unit in Sydney where she had skin grafts on her back, legs and face.

Another victim, Kate Sanderson, told the parliamentary inquiry in Perth there was a severe shortage of staff on the 60-mile course in Kimberley, Western Australia." (More)

Indianapolis, IN

and that's why I only run 5Ks... I don't get far enough away from the start/finish line to where the staff can't save me in case of fire.

On the trails

Good thinking. Also good thinking not to run marathons in the Australian Outback.

Unless you're running from Lord Humongous, Ayatollah of Rock'n'Rolla that is.
