I just saw that the picture of the day is now pictures of the day.

Just a thought, but how hard would it be to make each picture there for two days and alternately each day, have the new one push up from the bottom?

By making these requests, I'm feeling like the CEO of the small company I work for and the shit he throws around

Easy, and a pretty good idea. Don't worry about making too many requests, no matter how minor. Anything that can potentially improve the quality of the site is a-ok by me.

Added this back! I think it was anime's idea and was a song lyric or something.

This weekend I'm going to do one last pass on the site navigation, particularly contests. If you have any suggestions on getting to contests sooner, like upcoming contests especially, post 'em here. Have you ever said to yourself "I wish it was easier to get to ________ page"?

Right now you're one click away from seeing upcoming contests (Contests tab), and 0 clicks from seeing live contests (embedded in the header). I can't think of how to improve the main contests page, but if you have any suggestions let me know.

I'm wondering where the finished contests disappear to. They stay in that latest contests thing at the top for a bit but I don't see a place to access them after that. Except maybe the Calendar thing. And although that's really cool, I like seeing them in a list the way they are on the main contests page.

Heya Twiggy -- if you go to the Contests page and then click on the title for, say, the Graffiti box, it takes you to a multi-page list of all the old contests of that type. Is that what you want?

Yeah the specific thing I was thinking was easier access to the Graffiti only listing, or Slags only, etc. They're linked in the colorful boxes on the main contests page but maybe those links could be more prominent.

Didn't know which one of the threads to post this one in, but I noticed when you click someone's user name in the shoutbox or the forums, it takes you to a weird version of the user page. Minor thing but hopefully a quick-fix to get it to go to the regular user proflie?

Hmm yeah it appears the forums are still linking to the default profile, which is bad aside from changing your forum settings. I thought I fixed that but it must have been in an older template. I will fix it again; thanks Twiggy!

Hello do any of you folks visit Mechapixel on a laptop? If so, what is your screen resolution? I'm going to expand the entire site a little bit horizontally, around 100-200 pixels wider. If you're rolling at 1164xwhatever, then it might result in a horizontal scrollbar, which I'd like to avoid. I don't know what resolution laptops are these days, so just doing an informal poll!

My hope is that everyone is on a LCD at 1280x1024 or wider so everything will look peachy if it was a little wider.

edit: wait a sec... I brought this up a few months ago and got a few responses. I should go re-read those I think..... it's just that I've been rolling at 1280x1024 for like 8 years so I don't know how many folks, especially above-average tech savvy folks like you guys, are at 1024x768 still.

Would it add to the community and/or add to the homepage to steal Weather Underground's "WunderPhotos" feature?

http://www.wunderground.com/

It could be MechaPhotos and would basically be like a running "random digital pics" thread except you could comment right to the individual pic itself (instead of within a simple forum thread) and you could also favorite pics? Just throwin' it out there...

I was planning on adding something like that to the homepage. You're talking about just leaving a quick simple comment on a picture (or making it a favorite), without leaving the homepage?

My idea was a horizontal scrolling filmstrip type thing at the top, and I guess commenting/favorites could be incorporated into that. I definitely want to get some random photoshops on the homepage in some fashion.

We've had a lot of good idea come around here and in the thread in the Mecha+ forum! It's just a matter of firmly deciding on some and incorporating them into the site.
