Hey gang,

I just renewed the Mechapixel.com domain for another year! If you still enjoy visiting the site and use it daily or every other day, please consider supporting it by donating occasionally if you don't have Mecha+. The site generally has around 10 regular members, and it only takes 6 people to maintain Mecha+ each month to cover hosting (and I guess the very small amount for domain registration that comes out to be $1.50/month).

Several people (mostly moderators) have permanent or comped Mecha+ from way back, and the reason I'm soliciting right now is I've been just a tad out of pocket on hosting costs this year. Not much, but some.

If anyone is curious, the Google ads that have been in place for 2 years have yielded a total of $59.78 in ad revenue, and they won't cut a check (pay out) until it reaches $100. Yeah, we don't get much traffic!

I know Mecha+ doesn't carry nearly the same value it once did, since we do not hold contests anymore... and to be honest that ship has probably long since sailed. However the service of the forums being here daily since the revival a few years back is the value I see in the site and community these days.

We're approaching the 10th anniversary of Mechapixel (well, technically of the Photoshoppers With Attitude group), and I will boldly admit that I have not had nor seen any ideas I felt worth pursuing, despite some helpful suggestion over the past few years. I treasure our old content though, and want to keep it online -- perhaps presented as more of an archive, or a museum filled with 2000s era photoshopping exhibits. I haven't felt the need to just close down the site however, because I am quite content with providing a home for the original community, even if it is down to around 10 people.

Thank you for continuing to visit the site!

Edit to clarify:
I'll still keep supporting the site and listening to suggestions with open ears. If a good suggestion comes along that sounds like it would add to the site and be quite useful, I won't disregard it at all. I'm not strictly "done with adding anything to the site", it just needs to be something people would enjoy and actually use. That was a huge motivation for me back in the day, and would be again in the future. All it boils down to for me is usefulness and purpose.

I will hit you up for some green... been a while since I donated. Thanks for keeping the site up, even if it is just a glorified chatroom now.

The real America not that part where you live.

With my wife and I both out of work right now might be hard to even come up with a few bucks for me. I swear if this were a physical place I would come in everyday and sweep the floors and clean the bathrooms to pay my way.
Anyway, I will talk to her later and see if I can come up with anything at all.
Thanks for keeping this around, means a hell of a lot to me.

Gahhh you're making me feel bad now!

I don't want you to donate if you're struggling to put food on the table; I know what it's like. I just figured there are probably fewer Mecha+ accounts these days because we don't run contests any more, so the value of that service is gone (and I completely understand and think that's a just reason).

I just wanted to point out I do still pay for hosting, and I'd like most of that to be a shared expense since Mecha has never had any other form of revenue (see my comment about the ads above). I also haven't gone down to a cheapo $3/month shared hosting plan or whatever because that would make the site much slower to load, plain and simple (even though most people just use the forums these days).

Also we do still get random hits on the contest pages from google and such, and have had a few curious non-bot new users sign up here and there. There is always the possibility of a new soul joining our community.

Agh, didn't mean to sound like that. Just meant money is tight, but it is cool.
Maybe I can accept AsMuch's big money offer for nude pics of myself, he promised he wouldn't post them online and only admire them for the artistic value.

Hey, I just came into a bit of money from some *artistic* pics that I sold to some completely trustworthy pornographer. I'll toss some into the pot when I get paid tomorrow.

Has it been 10 years? Wow.

I guess I'm one of those guilty for drifting in and out of the site, but try to pop in on a semi-regular basis to see who's about. I do miss the golden era of Fark shopping and the early Mecha days. I actually stumbled across an old USB drive full of old photoshops and it brought a sentimental tear to the eye. This place still means a lot to me.

Anyway, some green coming your way, Ved.

Hey Prof, good to see you! Ten years is a long time, yeah. Hell just five six years ago when many of us were still photoshopping here feels like a decade ago.

Thanks again for chipping in with the hosting expenses, guys!

I agree with Prof_B, I haven't been active in a while, but Mechapixel is a really big part of my past. I spent quite a lot of time ignoring my wife and kids to contribute to this place. LOL

But in all seriousness, I made a lot of friends here, and I haven't forgotten Mechapixel, even if I'm not participating much. So I'm sending some green your way, Ved. I hope it helps ;-)

And ... um ... Hi everyone!
