Well, I was hoping the fullmecha would return, but that's not the real reason. The real reason is my 95 lincoln blew it's motor. For no apparent reason, it's a 4.6, and gave no indications that the head gaskets may fail. I have not checked exactly what the problem is, I moved on to the car it replaced 2 years ago.

That car, a 91 grand marquis, I had for a very long time. It has a newish motor and trans, but needed a bunch of things fixed that I let slide. Safety stuff like the upper control bushings and shocks, maybe brakes? Convenience items like ac and heat and window motors. And cop items like the cracked windshield, that was likely caused by a redneck shooting pellets at cars up in the sticks where I used to work.

The wife is a horrible driver, and got ticketed for driving too close with a fucking cop behind her. He tagged her for the windshield too, well, because they are dicks. So, knowing there was at least $1000 in repairs to be done, it was more cost effective at the time to buy the Lincoln with working ac for $2000. I took the GM off the road and tried to get the cops to void the ticket by paying the $10 fine. They had to see the car, I told them it’s in the crusher, safety violations solved. They were too anal to understand the concept of the law and made me pay $87, even though the registration was transferred to the Lincoln. . I got some most of the parts I needed to fix it but only got the upper bushings done before parking the car in the backyard, out of sight out of mind.

Sooo, with the Lincoln, now needing at least $1000 in repairs, it too is off the road, and we just put $500 in Michelins on it. She is driving my cop car, which is extremely dangerous to drive in the rain. If you floor it on wet roads at 50, the tires will break loose. Anyway, I was working on the GM for the last 2 months.

But, that don’t mean I gave up on the Folvo! I still have in mind what needs to be done there. My main focus is hooking up systems, I wanted to start with brake and fuel, but soon realized, that the exhaust would play a huge role in routings. I also wanted to get the emergency brake and shifter working. The first actual system I did was the steering, it was pretty easy, and it needed to be in, to think about subsystems. Those systems mainly, speedometer and turn signals. The Volvo instrument cluster is a vdo unit, the speedo drive comes out the right side instead of the back like normal. I tried to find a way to hook a ford c4 cable to the german head unit, and no matter what happened it would have been a circle jerk. It is not a problem to use aftermarket gauges, but they be pricey, and I really wanted to do this on a budget. The dash pad is $300 or a cover for $100, if we make our own, it might balance out.
http://www.ray.bt76.com/pics/gaugepac.jpg
That is $550 in dashboard without even looking at a stereo! (I’m taking the pioneer unit out of the love wagon) I’m not telling the Volvo people about this part yet! Anyway, it means making a custom dashboard to fit the gauges in, not that big a deal. I’m thinking of using casting material, I tried to get a Dr to “donate” some! Since the car will be blue, the gauges will look awesome, and they have a lifetime warrantee!

I put in the battery cables in and mounted the ign box, regulator and starter solenoid. I have a list of relays for the various electrical systems and have the wiring I jacked off some car along the way. I made the mount for the radiator and front fan. I started bending lines for the trans cooler, only to find out my chinese radiator don’t have the proper fittings in it. All in all, got a lot of ideas, but not much labor to back them up! Fitting the front bumper is a whole nother can of shit, but that’s another post entirely!

Well, A month later and not too much progress, but some. Actually things are starting to click in place. After much stress, I have a complete brake system, not totally hooked up, but in place nonetheless. Rebuilt calipers for this beast are almost $200 each, and rotors are in the $250 range, so glad we have something under there now.

I have the fuel system in place, needs some finishing touches, but with a few sparks and a whiff of ozone, I could have gas running to the motor.

The exhaust is mostly done, all that is left is the rear exits, and we are not sure what to put there. Also depends on how the rear bumper works out. Some of the tips are really expensive, or maybe i'll just get one of them trashcans like the ricers use!

Next on the agenda is making the front panel and hood work together. We still need to get to the upullit and look for stuff. There is a car show we are heading to next week, looking for deals!
http://www.moultrieswapmeet.com/
We hit up the ripoff upullit, just to look around. I need a right hand mirror off a miata, and still up in the air about wheels. They had plenty to look at, but way too much to buy. They want more $$ than a real junk yard that will bring the parts out to you. What was interesting was all the clunkers that were on the floor. I suspect this whole welfare for dealers thing was a shit sandwich for the people. So without any more adieu, the latest update.

So, much nicer weather in GA than we expected,.... super sunny and hot! It was every bit of 80 out there, but we will take that over the cold! We pretty much ran the whole show, it's figggin huge! I took a lot of pics, and realized when putting them together, I had forgotten to look at any of the cars. We were there from 9 to 4, my feet felt like they would explode, my legs were threatening to cramp up on the way home. I took lots of pill!

There were deals to be had, if you were so inclined. There were people just fucking insane, just absurd prices for junk, and I know what junk is! Had we gone to this show a year ago, I doubt we would be working on a volvo now. That said, here are about 310 pics from the day. All we got was 2 carbs for $45 (new are around $300) a plate for 67/8 in florida and some hose clamps. The car is titled now, and they said if we get a plate we can send it in to the state to have it certified and we can register the car with that number, it was $20 pretty good shape. I had people whining at me so I couldn't spend any time on stuff. Whined at me when I talked to people, shit this was work for me, I have to talk to people!

Anyway, with no further adieu, the pics. I didn't caption them, if you need to know something just note the #!

I was down at daytona over the weekend, normally you'd go sweet! No, it was awful, fuckin bitter cold, no sun at all! No clue who was racing, I think most had dropped out by sunday. I got some pics, but for some reason my zoom didn't. I partially blame the mazda team. Anyway, here are some pics of the event!

Jay Leno Restores a Vintage Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing
For Jay Leno, the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing was always just out of reach. That changed recently when he bought, and slowly restored, a 1955 300SL. Though its paint job isn't new, this sturdy Gullwing is finally back on the road.

Last weekend was the Gatornationals in Gainesville, the day we went it was cold and raining, fortunately, it stopped long enough to get some qualifying in.

Lots of pic, links embedded in the text, hard to find, I put notes to click when there are links. I was reluctant about going but I'm glad I did, there is nothing in the world like this!

And this weekend was the spring car show at Daytona. We went on Friday, to avoid the crowds, and because my friend wanted to ditch work. Over all it was uneventful, but we almost came home with a '49 lincoln. I think the deal died when I told my friend I am not able to do this shit anymore. It was a spectacular piece of iron. I got me a can of spray prime, that was the expenditure for the day. There wasn't as much tempting us as up in Moultrie, but there is a 70 mustang in Craigslist here for $1000! So tempting!

There were a lot of cars there, I'd say about half the amount that would show for saturday. But with more cars also comes more people, and I'm sure it was a zoo. We thought of going back on sunday, but we had enough walking and sun for a while.

If you don't want to wade through 250 car pics, head down to the swap meet section. I found stuff there that shocked even me. Really, you got to see this. It's what I have been talking about all these years, what this place is really like! Anyway, lots of pics!

I really didn't realize how freaking long it's been since I did a Folvo update. I've been taking pictures all along, figuring I'd get something finished eventually and get to a posting point. Well, here we are 2 years into the project and sorta have something done.
http://www.ray.bt76.com/pages/SimplyDashing/index.html
None of this is in chronological order, work is spread around what I feel like working on. (and how able I am to work) You have no idea of the pain it causes when I have to sand, I just want to chop off my hands. Between that and the heat it's been rough. It was 118 in the shade the day we took the seats out of the mercedes at the junk yard, and it was a black car.

I have 108 more pics of other stuff we have been working on, I may write them up too since I was sanding yesterday and my hands hurt like hell today. I have priming to do, but my shoulders also hurt like hell. Anyway, the seat problem really is boning us right now, It is the only major hurdle to over come on the inside of the car. Once the seats are mounted everything can be put back in place, the whole shebang.

I have the fenders and front panel done. I have the hood latches done, the pulleys on the engine are causing me grief. I need 1/8 inch more clearance and no one will help me. I can go v belt and get it, but really don't want to, would rather have the serpentine belts. more on that in the next installment.

I forgot the what the cluster I'm putting in will look like!
http://www.phoenixtuning.com/zenstor...roducts_id=374

It's pricey, but at all electronic, the calibration for everything is a wiz. It also will do 0-60 times and such! I'll put pics of the painted console in the next one. It can go as soon as I prime the left fender. There is also a little device that fits inside the console door that hooks up to the ipod and mimic's the ipod display, also controls it via remote! (I haven't shown the volvo people any of this yet!)

Well, I have been sticking pics in a folder since February now. It doesn't seem like we really have accomplished much. But going back and looking at it all, I guess we are making headway.

In this one, we start with a functional shifter! Yay! It's not in the car, but yay nonetheless. I got a working hood! The release isn't done, but the elements are there, and it does open and close as it should. I have heater, headlights. I have straight fenders and nose piece. I got mirrors, and I think I have alternator and waterpump! So, it's sort of coming along!

My kid comes home yesterday from his bike ride, he's lost about 100 lbs riding every day. He told me about this place caddy way, well yesterday the guy has all all the cars out, we walked over to take pics. He was having the stupidbaker club over, we didn't get back for that. I didn't write up captions for them, just ask if you got questions. Just awful day for taking pics, super bright sun and lots of trees everywhere. It was about 95 out, so hot too!
http://www.ray.bt76.com/pages/Chrome_Dreams/index.html
Daniel got to for a ride in the car. The batteries were weak so he only filmed a bit.
http://www.ray.bt76.com/movie/T-ride/MVI_5804.htm
He was kinda stunned by it all. Not that these cars were that expensive, still quite a collection for one person to deal with. He did have him a slave there to wash them. So he gets out and said, that was almost 100 years old, and I was riding in it.

And Last weekend I was down in Gaineville at a race. The NHRA was pimping it like it was something, it wasn't, just a bracket race with insane cars. By insane, I mean for no reason. These are cars that had a place in IHRA, and mostly southern/midwest things. Built for fast at any cost. It started with Nitrous, as parts came readily available, mountain motors, over 800 cubic inches. Add forced induction blowers and turbos, and that's what was on display. What you sacrifice is any and all durability, all of these are time bombs. 800hp costs about $15,000, many of these had pro built chassis, add another $40,000. That just gets you close to the game, for a possible one in sixteen chance at $5000. They are inconsistent, very hard to drive, and explosive. I guess it's like mountain climbing. Here are some sights and sounds of outlaw racing!

I finally got the album done from the fall car show. It's big, 340 pics, and we didn't finish the whole show. It was absurdly bright, not a cloud in the sky, a comfortable 70. One has to think about the massive labor it takes to get this many old cars gussied up and offered for sale. This was a cash economy weekend, not a lot of taxes paid. What I didn't know, in Ga, you don't pay tax on used car sales, private party. Here, if a car is sold 12 times a year, they collect tax on every sale. Anyway, there were a few nice cars, there was some stuff worth having, some good projects, but nothing that left us wanting one. It was good to get out.

Still haven't touched the car since November, I was feeling pretty good since I got disability and could afford doctors. It all went to shit again when I put in the new oven. Wasn't that hard, or heavy, I'm just a mess. Anyway, my point, There were jet cars up in GA, we went.

This place is right off 75 just north of Valdosta, pretty much the middle of nowhere. Kept thinking to myself, we have over a million people here, and have no place to race cars. Even the mud pit closed, there is plenty of open land, abandoned air bases, no racing for you! Soo, The roundy round track faces the highway, the stands are built like a pyramid and the drag strip on the other side. There are luxury boxes at the top, didn't ask about them, but there were some goobers up there. The facility was outstanding. 1/4 mile all concrete track, tons of room, well run. We were very impressed, and it makes you want to get back in a car and compete. The jets only made 2 runs and one broke, but still, pretty awesome to strap your ass next to a jet engine and turn it on. The pro mod car never did make it down the track, they seldom do, too complicated. Apparently this is the only other thing to do there than fuck, because everyone there was either pregnant or draggin babies. I don't see how they stay so lilly white when it's hot as balls there. It was 100 in the shade and smokey from the fires around. They still set off fireworks afterwards! They were awesome, but we couldn't stay.

No still haven't touched the car, but did go to a car show and the gatornationals!
http://www.ray.bt76.com/pages/2012Gators/index.html

There is a tractor pull at the Ga track this weekend, and spring show in daytona at the end of the month. Thinking about going to both, we will see.
http://www.racesgmp.com/schedule-spe...tail.da?id=322
Kid said no, then looked at the pics and said that is too stupid not to see.
http://daytonabeachcarshows.com/dayt...ring-car-show/
This show is known to be a rip off and sleazy, but there are some good cars there and it's massive to walk around.
