Not to be the ass that shoots down your work, but I personally like the original one best still. I like it because it sits squarely in the corner and is less distracting. However, each time I look at the new watermark options, I like them a little more. So if it is to be changed, I think #1 as well. It does put a bit of spice into it. Maybe a little less opaque like the original one?

God I'm picky eh?

No worries at all, and really good eye with the opacity. The original was at 55% opacity, I jacked the new samples up to 75%, just so it didn't get too lost in the image. I don't want the watermark to dominate the picture, but I definitely want people to notice it. After playing with it some more, I like the idea of a smaller watermark but less opacity, because the letters aren't thick enough anyway to let the background colors bleed though. So now I'm trying out nearly 100% opacity, but with a smaller font. Less of a "watermark" I guess and more like a small logo.

And now, on to more important things!

Looks great to me, very noticeable without being too distracting.

Agrees with Chuck. Too large, and it would take away from the image itself, too low opacity, and it could be easily missed. Small with 100% opacity strikes me as the way to go.

Finally added a lightbox to the graffiti contests. Should work with all modern browsers. The only downside, which will become more apparent in Slags, is it shows images at their full size, so those 2000x1500 mega full size entries will add scrollbars to your screen. It's still easy to scroll around and close though.

If you click on the left or right side of a graffiti entry, it will go to the previous/next entry, like a slideshow. Click outside of the full image to close it, or click the Close thingy on the bottom right corner.

Give me your thoughts! Here is a sample graffiti, just click on any entry: http://mechapixel.com/graffiti.php?gid=165

Oh yeah, I could and might disable the slideshow part of it, and the only reason would be because if you come across an entry you want to comment on (or add to favorites), you have to close it and scroll down the page and find it. Scrolling down the page as is lets you view all the entries and comments for them, and you can just view single full size images here and there. So I don't know.

Is there any way to make the lightbox feature within the forum threads a little more modest in image size reduction? Say, like 700 wide or so?

Without any indication that an image has been resized, it just looks like everyone's posting small pics. And that's sort of a drag in the photo and photoshop themed forum threads.

EDIT: Is the lightbox gone in the forums? I didn't see it in options just now.

EDIT EDIT: cool beans

Hey h2ogate, good to see you!

Ok, I went ahead and disabled the slideshow option for Graffiti due to the aforementioned issue of inconvenience regarding viewing comments on entries.

I did add the lightbox to Slags, just on the main page with thumbnails. Clicking a thumbnail will bring up the regular (600px wide) version of the entry, and you can click Next to browse through them. To visit the entry page itself, click on the entry title under the thumbnail.

Sample: http://mechapixel.com/contest.php?cid=326

Graffitis are close to being ready to go, short of having an option for Photography (with checkbox voting) and Mixed Media (no voting). Mixed Media will take a bit of work, so I'm going to add Photography-only options to graffiti contests for now. Once that is done and I redo the homepage, we will be ready for contests once again!

Alright here we go!

Contests are now open. I disabled Mecha+ restrictions on the main site so everyone can access and test out upcoming graffiti, including photography themes, suggested contest queue, and contest suggestions.

Help me out by submitting entries and thingies:

Upcoming Graffiti: Uncanny Robot (STP)
You can submit entries, and the start date will be changed from December 31 to something sooner. No ETA on that but any submissions will stay put. I'd say the contest will go live well within a month, just depends on when I can redo the homepage and a lot of backend shit.

Suggested Contest Queue
Turned on for everyone. Vote on submitted graffiti STP/themes/photograffis. Koko or I will approve/deny suggested contests every few days, or after a fair number of votes come in. Contests will be set up with start dates TBA, but they will be open for submissions via the Graffiti link in the sidebar.

Suggest Contest
Currently only works for Graffitis, but submit photos to photoshop, theme ideas, or photography ideas. Then go to the queue to see their progress.

#3 is definitely at the top of my list.

And since I couldn't post on the "Open Rant" thread, let me say that having contests start up again would definitely give me an excuse to dust off the tablet and (*gasp*) actually install Photoshop again. Also, I miss beatingstruggling to keep up with people in the arcade.
