Okay all the old smilies are back, but they aren't in order and some names need to be fixed. They're there though! I'll work on adding some categories later so they aren't one huge blob of smilies.

We have a dupe or two. I replaced the green rimshot with the blue rimshot, but both show up. Might be more, not sure...

Hmm, this guy --> Click the image to open in full size., gives you this guy --> when you click on him.

Personally, I like the one with the attitude better. Is that what you mean by the dupe, koko?

Yeah, I like the 'tude guy. I had uploaded the happy guy, then tried to replace him with 'tude guy, but I guess it got wonky in the database.

Seems like sometimes when I click on a thread it takes me to the most recent post, while other times it takes me to the first one.

I got the Volleybattle pages back online, and looking over them it makes me really sad they never took off. They were an attempt to go beyond 1-10 scale voting and add voting on categories, such as Technical, Concept, and Style.

Here is one volleybattle from the past:
http://mechapixel.com/contest.php?vid=4

And the statistics page which broke down the categories and votes for each entry:
http://mechapixel.com/contest.php?vid=4&mode=stats

I can see where it can be considered a bit time-consuming and complicated, but I still liked the idea! Maybe some part of it can be salvaged, while making it bit less grandiose or something.

If anyone has any ideas for the mega-faceoffs that were Volleybattles, let's hear them! I'll start: Ditch Volleybattles (or more to forum threads), but add the technical/style/concept voting to Faceoffs, yet they remain a single theme image contest.

On the front page, maybe something to explain what this is. I mean we know, but if someone should hit on the front page fresh there really isn't any welcoming message saying hi we are an artsy and fartsy community with lots of diverse content. I know there is about, but you only get one first impression.

I think perhaps a fan page at facebook is in order, again welcoming new recruits. I remember when the brit from b3ta stumbled in, forgot his name, anyway, he said of all the places he had been, he never got welcomed like here.

Yeah I considered that... just need to figure out how. Most websites don't have an introductory "about us" thing on their homepage, they have it on ...well, an About page. I mean most sites DO have at least a couple sentences here and there accompanying links on the homepage, and we lack that around those boxes. Except the box in the bottom left, it explains Mecha a little. Maybe I could change that to be more broad, explain what Mecha is all about. It's still at the bottom-left of the page though.

Some sort of Facebook integration is fairly mandatory these days. I like the idea of a fan page. Even though we have forums, FB is pretty big for social networking!

It took me a second to realize that those were the current contests listed on the top row above the tabs. I think a label might help a bit for those not in the loop.

Yea, there is info overload on the front, but no problem in that, it just takes a bit to get used to. Like adobing.

I thought of something else. (I typed 2 words wrong in that sentence, I needs me some rest) I've been clicking through on an aarkie link all day now. How bout some random feature, where every click gets a new thing and a little about the pic, artist or something like that. I spend a lot of time on pbase clicking the random button too.

Can you elaborate a little on this? Do you mean every page of the site has a random photoshop entry off in a little box somewhere?

No, more like a random button that would bring up something.
http://www.pbase.com/photos/random.html
Something more like that. Like going to taco bell, and can't decide, it's all the same crap, and not like you will get what you ordered. Just click random so you are not mad and may get something good. (if only they had that feature)

I spend a lot of hours when I'm spent just clicking give me more. I didn't think too much about it, but if I did, maybe a pool of really cool pics, and a text box with the contest and user info and date of contest. Maybe ads on the page to get revenue. I used to sit and keep clicking at rate my camel toe too, so I don't know. It's just something I do when I don't want to think much and be entertained. I'm thinking it could be a hook to get people interested that may shy away.

I propose that the old .gif placeholder George be replaced with the current whipping boy, good ol' Mel. I'm sure there are plenty of good pics of him out there.

This weekend I'm going to be working on some of the suggestions you guys have made on making the site more friendly to new folks.

Time for a quick survey! Today a new Graffiti contest, Kiss Audition, went live at 8 AM. Has anyone not noticed that? If not, do you have any suggestions on how to make it more obvious when a new contest goes live, or is it easy enough to spot now on the homepage (and the in the site header)?

Now is the time to let me know.

I guess I'd say that the "latest contents" line near the top of the forums page is a little small and easy to miss. Given that a lot of people spend much of their time here on the forums page, maybe that could be a little larger. Or maybe with blink tags and flash animations and 3D.

Can't seem to get my signatures to work, neither by posted a hosted image in the reply type pane, or by uploading a image from my PC to be hosted as the sig line.

The signature is getting saved it seems, so it's a template problem. I'll check it out this week.

Hmm actually I see my signature link in the bottom left, but it's a show/hide type thing. Gear Jammer, can you try just putting in some text so I can see if it's strictly an image problem, or a whole different issue?

Didn't notice the new "my signature" drop down before, so the text version may always have been working for me, but expecting to see it in the old way, I was oblivious. Trying an image now.

Nope image upload for sigs, doesn't appear to work. Ah well.

Can we go back to the old way of doing the smilies with the pop up window? I know, low priority, but you asked for suggestions...

Can you please elaborate a bit? The smilies do currently pop up, as they always have.

In the shoutbox, specifically. I hadn't looked at thread posting, which has more of what I was thinking. In the shoutbox, if you click More, the window is kind of small so the larger ones get cropped and with the number of smilies we've got, you have to scroll quite a bit to find the one you're looking for. Also the window is "tied to" the text field and not really a pop-up window that you can move around. I used to keep it open and would refer to it if I wanted to use one later.
