I read that they had a live feed of the action. I can just imagine it like in Aliens when all the marines have cameras that can be seen in the command center. That would be bad ass.

He always was an asshole.

I'm also reminded of that scene in Clear and Present Danger where they're all watching the "satellite" view.

I'm trying to figure out why the story keeps evolving about what happened with the Osama killin thing. The original of this shop shows the bunch watching the actual event live through cool new technology, right?

I don't mean this to be facetious- If they watched live, and I'm sure got a tape of what happened.. why isn't the story straight from the onset?

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/...n-panetta.html

Leon Panetta:

"Once those teams went into the compound, I can tell you that there was a time period of almost 20 or 25 minutes that we really didn't know just exactly what was going on. There were some very tense moments as we were waiting for information. But finally Adm. [William] McRaven came back and said he had picked up the word 'Geronimo,' which was the code word that represented they got bin Laden," he said."

I fully appreciate that, Repo.. but if they have the video why is the story evolving?

http://edition.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS...volving.story/

"Hours later, a senior administration official began to revise that narrative to some White House reporters. Further revisions came Tuesday when White House Press Secretary Jay Carney gave a step-by-step description of the raid provided by the Defense Department that made clear bin Laden was unarmed and had no human shields. "

Black op missions sometimes give black op answers. I can guarantee those on the team are still in the midst of debriefing.

Possibly because they're still putting together all the details and accounts from the people who were there? Even if there is video of every second of the action, video can't tell the whole story. De-briefing the team will eventually get the whole story, or at least the best version we could ever have. The story is evolving, I assume, because we're putting together those details which surely will differ from the initial hastily released information. I assume it was decided that it was better to let the public know what happened, as far as they knew, as soon as possible rather than waiting until everything was in.

OK.. I'll cut everyone some slack for the reasons above.. but whether Osama was armed or not and whether he was using human shields or not, seem like easy things they could get straight. I don't expect to gather everything from the video..

Just read the Seal unit has arrived back in the U.S. for debriefing. So the complete story should be soon.
This unit answers only to the president so that makes sense. They also have decided to not release the photos which to me makes perfect sense to not add fuel to the extremist fire. To others I am sure it says coverup, lie, whatever.

Ok.. Guess we'll just have to wait for the request by the Media under the Freedom of Information Act to see them. Just a matter of time, like the kennedy head blown apart shots, or Abu Grab shots, or le pepe of Napolean..

btw.. my opinion, calling bullshit on the decision. NOTHING repeat loudly NOTHING we do will appease the extremist fire. Anyone think capping their hero (allegedly unarmed, as an government approved assasination) in the face didn't do that already? really? seriously?

PS this not directed at anyone.. just yackin and rackin my brainz

The freedom of information act is useful except these guys don't keep records. You can't request what doesn't exist.

But why fan the flames unnecessarily right now? Let's say they release it and a bunch of t-shirts are made up and thousands of unfunny Photoshoppers plaster thousands of unfunny images across the internet. That's something of a disservice to people who are currently in harms way. Does seeing his dead corpse really make anything better? Is it any different "closure" than the sworn word of the military personnel who undertook the mission who say he was killed? If the argument is that the terrorists/insurgents/etc. don't seem to care about releasing images of dead Americans, I say simply, "we are better than they are." If it's to quell any conspiracy theories that he's not actually dead, conspiracy theorists will never be happy.

In the end, I guess I'm just personally not interested in seeing someone's head blown apart, even if I'm glad that person is dead. It wouldn't help me feel one way or another about his death or all the people killed at his behest. It'd just make me feel like I saw yet another thing on the internet I wish I hadn't seen. Would it be OK if they just cropped it to show his feet and body lying there with a sworn affidavit from the Seal Team that yes, it is actually him?

Pretty sure there will be t-shirts either way, you know- it's a pretty good idea I think.

I am not a conspiracy theory dude. Really. But I feel this isn't the sort of thing you DON'T provide proof for. Some things you need a little more closure than others, this is 9-11 stuff we are talking about, not routine news.

Not convinced ANYTHING we do either way- come rain or shine will make one iota of difference to the people that hate us.

I didn't mean it that way if that's what it sounded like, I just meant we can view take things differently and that's perfectly OK.

@ chuck, and you are right...

Ok.. so let's say that years ago, an elite military team drops from the night sky and raids a compound.. same scenario, right? So they find chemical and biological WMD, they snatch it up and kill the guy in charge. Pictures were taken, or video- not the point.

The next day, Bush announces we found WMD in Iraq, but because of the graphic nature of the photos, and who they might offend, he can't show us the evidence. We are just going to have to take his word for it. Do you feel the same way about that role play?

again.. not directed at anyone..

I am not really seeing that analogy, but I don't really want to get bogged down in this. I have no need to see that picture. I don't think it serves a purpose. I understand that some people do. I will have a reasonable disagreement with those people.

the times, they keep a changing..

"Only one of the five people killed in the raid that got Osama bin Laden was armed and fired a shot, a senior defense official said Thursday, acknowledging the new account differs greatly from original administration portrayals of a chaotic, intense and prolonged firefight."

They said the first dude they came across shot at 'em, and from there on they assumed everyone was armed.

Let's see... movie references...
"...knife to a gunfight..."
"...decorate his bar with my friend better arm himself..."

I think if you make your name by murdering innocent people you might should expect somebody is gonna eventually take a shot at you, land it's probably not fair to expect them to check to see if you're armed at the time. I'm sure the dude's last thoughts were "motherfuckers... well played."

Maybe it'll turn out the rules were "if they're not armed, say 'sorry, we'll come back when you're armed"" and now it's a big coverup.
