I'm reading Greg Bear's Halo new Halo series now. It's set in the time of the Forerunners. Mostly it discusses the creation of the Halos and the last of an alien race known as the Precursors (who becomes the Gravemind).
The series is written with the blessing of 343 Studios, so I'm hoping that some of the cool tech in the book makes it into Halo 4.
NICE. you should have gotten it a month ago for Borderlands 2. Which is awesome btw.
I am mildly ashamed to say that I actually pre-ordered and paid the extra cash for the special edition of Halo 4, so I could get all of the specializations up front. First time I have ever paid for a special edition of a game. Its actually a good deal if you assume that you are going to buy the map packs when they come out. Although that is a pretty big assumption I suppose. I will be on about 5PM on Tuesday.
Hey, also check out the American Express/Xbox deal. They'll give you $10 for signing up, $25 for playing halo 4, and another $50 for beating Spartan Ops.
No, my account hasn't been hacked. (Proof: a nun stole my belt)
We're sorry for the delay in shipping the order you placed on August 29, 2012 (Order# 102-4027073-9993850). We have good news -- the order is now being shipped! You will receive a shipping confirmation with an updated delivery estimate within the next business day, for the following item(s):
Thanks newegg. My order got shipped yesterday with 3 day shipping. I went with the cheap one because I thought that 3 day shipping on a preorder might mean that it gets here day of, like every other preorder.
I'm still not sold on the whole XP unlock thing, but it sure beats the stupid ranking system in Halo 3 where you could go backwards in rank and the rather pointless Halo Reach XP unlock system that just gave you pretty armor pieces.
The new weapons are way cool and sound pretty awesome too. Ditto for vehicles.
I haven't quite figured out the way ordinance drops work, but I did get some cool things yesterday.
I heard that they were going to put in a skill ranking system that is something like the old system they had in Halo 3, but it wont be live until a couple months after launch after they test it some more.
Overall i think it is great so far. I am not that good at the competitive MP, never have been, probably never will be. That doesnt mean I wont play the shit out of it though. the campaign looks amazing too... only played through two missions so far, and man do they look nice.
I really like that there's a bunch of stuff I feel really clueless about right now. After 5 games, it's refreshing to feel like there's stuff to discover. Hopefully we won't discover that it totally sucks playing against people who know how to take advantage of the XP upgrades.
I love the feel of the weapons. The beefier sounds of the familiar guns make them feel more substantial.
I played some Regicide and Flood this weekend. Both are pretty awesome game modes.
In Regicide, whomever is the kill leader is crowned the king with a big arrow pointing at their heads. You get bonus points for killing the King. If you remain the King for 30 seconds, you get an overshield.
In Flood, it's similar to Zombies except that you get loadout choices when you are either the Spartans or the Flood. One of the Flood loadouts gives a big thrust ability that makes you go crazy fast. Spartans can get a Hardlight shield.
I have dabbled in the flood mode a little. That is fun. A worthy successor to living dead mode. I think I like that they dont alter the maps with fortifications.
And I hadnt thought about using the shield as a spartan. I always went with cloak, so the flood guys would come in and you could pop them before they see you. that shield would be handy though if it blocks a lunge, then they are toast.
So have done that Infinity level like 3 times now and my status still doesnt show a completion for it... every time we have bailed out and restarted the level. So I didnt get credit for that legendary run last night. Got it on the other two levels, but not Infinity. Which is irritating.
Edit: OK, so on the Waypoint site, it does show a legendary completion in my campaign stats. But not in the game menu. I guess I will find out which is right when the achievement doesnt pop.
Edit 2: only two missions left... we can stick a fork in this legendary campaign tonight if everyone is on.
