from the shoutbox today:

Here's a whole series of videos with every record to reach #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart during a given year. A nice blast from the past (if you want to subject yourself to the shame)

I was born right in the peak of disco, so I got that going for me.

hm... 1990 is pretty rough, that is when i graduated high school. I was born in 72, I am sure there is some great stuff in there.

Edit... Jon Bon Jovi -- Blaze of Glory for the win.

Edit 2: oof. American pie is the first song for 1972. Which makes perfect sense with the amount of times we listened to that song in high school.

Yeah, my high school graduation is rough. 1987. The standout is probably Tawny Kitaen writhing all over the Jaguars in Here I Go Again.

And man, they really liked the movie/video tie-ins back then. Even Starship's Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now has clips from Police Academy in it. Bob Seger, Beverly Hills Cop. Time of My Life, Dirty Dancing. Ugh.

Yea for the 1972, it is mostly Motown stuff. Not the Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd that I would have hoped for.

79? The only redeeming quality is that "My Sharona" was number one the week I was born.

My high school graduation was 1997. I see that Puff Daddy peaked the same year most of my graduating class did.

78. LOTS of Bee Gees. I at least got one week of Rolling Stones and one week of Wings (if that counts for anything). I don't remember Exile - Kiss You All Over, that's what was on top the week I was born.

I had the Macarena for my HS grauation year, 96. But I also had 2Pac's California Love. Neverimind, that was no better.

I guess the moral of the story is that music sucks any year you look at.
