On the trails

"Adobe is warning some owners of its Creative Cloud software applications that they’re no longer allowed to use older versions of the software. It’s yet another example of how in the modern era, you increasingly don’t actually own the things you’ve spent your hard-earned money on." More

Saw this post elsewhere with some alternatives:

"As an alternative though for just $50 you can get Affinity Photo and RawTherapee (free Lightroom replacement).

At the top end the full suite of Adobe software costs $359.88.year, recurring.

For the same price you can get Davinci Studio ($299) and Affinity Photo ($50). Round it out with Blender for 3D work and RawTherapee as a Lightroom replacement. If you're a vector artist Inkscape is a free alternative to Adobe Illustrator.

Premiere -> Davinci ($299)
After Effects -> Davinci
After Effects (3D/VFX) -> Blender ($0)
Photoshop -> Affinity Photo ($49.99) / Gimp ($0)
LightRoom -> RawTherapee ($0) / Capture One ($330)

The most expensive option is roughly the same as two years of Abobe subscription without the lock-in and conditions and with a term upgrades.

If you don't want to pay anything then a combination of Blender, Gimp, Inkscape, and RawTherapee will do anything most people outside of Pixar would ever need to do for exactly $0.

If you're a professional and have an established workflow $359 is probably not a huge cost.

If you are starting out, an amateur/hobbyist, or somebody worried about being locked into a single company, then you might be better served by powerful open-source software and other great paid alternatives."

Somewhere on this ball we call "Earth"

I've used gimp for a long time. Works great.
