End of WW2: Slothrop is escaping from a secret rocket factory that is being used to produce a new and powerful rocket by Lt. Marvy and his men (a group of drunken English, and Russian men). The chase includes gun shots, a high speed mine tunnel chase, and many many limmericks about having sexual relations with components of said rocket (heres one):
There was a young fellow named Pope,
Who plugged into an oscilloscope.
The cyclical trace
of their carnal embrace
Had a damn nearly infinite slope. etc...
After hitching a ride in a hot air ballon, with a black market pie salesman (there is a huge market for pie apparently in post WW2 Germany.) The chase continues when from the clouds he begin's to hear the drunken limmericks gaining volume...
The book won book of the decade and really is outstanding (I don't think I would spend time to write this for many others). Thanks for the comments. |
